Community Impact
The UWC embraces social responsibility and believes in using its resources, including the enthusiasm and expertise of its Members, to further not only charitable interests, but also the welfare and interests of the broader community. The UWC identifies areas of action where it can make a difference. A main focus has been to support the needs of young people endeavoring to achieve their educational and aspirational goals.
The Mentoring Program
While UWC members have informally mentored each other for decades, during its 90th Anniversary, the UWC proudly launched its Mentoring Program. The Program intentionally pairs UWC “Mentors” with UWC Member-“Mentees,” or accepted UWC Scholar-Mentees. Participants explore their professional and personal goals, cultures, social connections, and greater communities. We believe that this new program advances our purpose, “friendship and learning through the universal mind.” Personal growth, work/life balance, and mind/body/spirit are just a few of the themes that participants will consider. Orquesta de Los Barrios
The Orquesta de los Barrios came into being after young members of the Infanto-Juveniles musical program of the City of Buenos Aires were invited to play at a UWC luncheon in 2017. Directed by Maestro Nestor Tedesco, the Orquesta de los Barrios now comprises twenty-two young musicians aspiring to elevate their artistic careers to the highest level. By sponsoring individual musicians, organizing concerts, sourcing donated instruments, and exposing these talented young people to multiple cultural experiences, UWC members help the musicians evolve and perfect their skills both as individuals and as a musical ensemble.
